Handy Tibert, a Haitian audiovisual expert and filmmaker, has been selected by FIFA as Venue Technical Manager for the FIFA World Cup 2026 at the Kansas City venue. In this key role, he will oversee technical broadcast operations, coordinating a large team and ensuring high-quality live coverage of matches for a global audience of billions.

From Haitian Cinema to the World’s Biggest Stage

Born on December 17, 1980, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Handy Tibert began his career in the local film industry. He made his acting debut in 2002 in the film Barikad directed by Richard Sénécal. He later transitioned into technical roles, working as a camera operator, editor, assistant producer, and video journalist. His early credits include acting in Haitian productions such as La Victime (2005) and contributing to international projects like the 2013 documentary Girl Rising.

Tibert founded Plug In Audiovisual and gained valuable experience in live event production through collaborations on music competitions like Digicel Stars and major sports events across the Caribbean and Latin America.

Building Expertise in Live Sports Broadcasting

A turning point came in 2019 during the CONCACAF Gold Cup in New Jersey, where Tibert contributed to stadium technical operations. This experience, combined with certifications from the Broadcast Academy and mentorship from professionals like Chris Cook, opened doors to higher-level international work. He has since directed and engineered live broadcasts in approximately 20 countries across the Americas.

Tibert has often credited the challenging conditions in Haiti — working under rain, crowd pressure, or difficult circumstances — for developing his ability to perform reliably under high-stakes pressure, a skill essential for major tournaments.

Securing His Role with FIFA for the 2026 World Cup

Initial contact for the World Cup opportunity came in 2022 from a British company involved in FIFA’s broadcast infrastructure. Through persistent networking and his proven track record, the collaboration was finalized in 2025.

As Venue Technical Manager in Kansas City, Handy Tibert will manage a team of around 100 people and supervise 45 to 50 cameras per match. His responsibilities are central to delivering seamless, world-class broadcast production for the expanded 48-team tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

A Source of Haitian Pride and Inspiration

News of Tibert’s selection has generated widespread celebration in Haitian media. In an April 2026 interview on Carel Pedre’s “Carel In The Morning” show on Chokarella, he shared his journey, describing it as a story of perseverance and national pride. Many Haitians see his achievement as a breakthrough for local talent on the global technical stage.

Tibert remains committed to his roots. He plans to leverage his international experience to restart training programs for young Haitian audiovisual professionals, an initiative he first launched in 2014. He views his FIFA role not only as a personal milestone but as motivation for the next generation of Haitian creators.

The Broader Context of FIFA World Cup 2026

The 2026 edition will be the largest FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams and matches across 16 venues in three host nations. Technical leaders like Handy Tibert play a vital role in managing the complex infrastructure needed to broadcast the tournament to audiences worldwide.

Handy Tibert’s remarkable path — from acting on small sets in Port-au-Prince to a senior technical position with FIFA for the 2026 World Cup — highlights how talent, mentorship, and determination can elevate professionals from emerging markets onto the world’s biggest sporting stage. As the tournament approaches in June 2026, his contribution will help showcase the “beautiful game” while proudly representing Haitian excellence.
